Houston Flooding Harvey Insurance Claims
HB 1774, the New Law Created by Republicans and Signed by Gov. Abbott lowers the amount of interest that homeowners can recover from insurance companies from a firm 18 percent to a floating scale currently at 10 percent. In addition, the new law limits the recovery of attorneys' fees if WHEN the lawsuit is filed, the claim for damages is not within 80 percent of the recovery made at trial. Additionally, before a lawsuit is filed, a written claim must be made at least 60 days before filing suit.
