Your buying a house and you want to put an offer on the house. Your agent says there are multiple offers on the house so you have to hurry. But is it true? It might be, but this is the most classic pressure sales pitch used in real estate - hurry because you might miss this deal. How can you know?
Your agent will tell you she can not reveal the other offers. Of course not, if she is representing you the buyer, all she can actually know is what you present. She would never know what the seller is receiving. But she says the sellers' agent is reporting lots of activity. Of course! How else can they put pressure on you the buyer? Is it true? Might be and it might not be.
The best you can do is resist the pressure and make an offer consistent with your goals and standards in the deal. If your offer fails, at least you will not have betrayed yourself. If you end up with a house and it turns out no one was looking at it and you paid too much, you are going to be truly unhappy.
