You first move in to your subdivision and you and all of your neigbors happily pay for your homeowner dues and why not? You have a nice management company and the HOA management company takes care of all of the problems in the subdivision.
That is, the HOA management company was doing all of the work until the developer sold his last lot. Once that occurred, the developer quit subsidizing the HOA and the result was a group of homeowners now stuck with either increasing their dues to pay for the management or taking over the endless headaches of HOA management.
So why did the developer do this? To lure you in. With an efficient HOA management company, the subdivision was well taken care of and looked great for the buyers. Had you known this was the case, would you have bought in that neighborhood? Would you have paid what you paid?
