I went through West recently and observed some, but by no means, all of the devastation. A building believed to be a school was crushed. You could see the force hit the north side of the building.
Driving further down the street to the south, house after house had windows blown out. West, Texas just got water back yesterday and it is limited. You can't get iced tea at the restaurants.
The community has rallied around themselves and their is a solid network of people helping people. It is a town in shock but full of love for each other.
Families are living in motels and eating food brought to them from the outside. Volunteers help clean the hotel. The Red Cross is set up inside and Farm Bureau Insurance has a trailer in the parking lot. All of the conference rooms are filled with clothing, food, water, toiletries and cleaning products.
It is hard to believe the devastation here. I can't believe this could happen in such a quiet peaceful place. It happened because the State of Texas doesn't care about the safety of Texans as much as it cares about the profits of big business. Governor Rick Perry can fly in and say his platitudes but the explosion tells the truth. The truth that big corporate interests count more than the public safety.
